Do You Have Expectations Of A Fallen World?

I know I do. At times, I have expected the world to care about me, to recognize me for my accomplishments, to understand me and my quirks, and to accept me. Why do I expect these things from a world that cannot give them to me? Why do I want people to give me something they can’t give and why do I do this repeatedly?

Christ enters the picture and tells us we are not to be like the world, we are to live in the light of day, we are to be led around by the Spirit, and we are to seek a “peaceful and quiet life”. (1 Timothy 2:2). Sounds like the opposite of what I described above, doesn’t it? Minding my own business and knowing that God sees me is supposed to be enough – and after enough practive, it is.

Jesus is not glorified when we talk and act like everybody else. Our family and friends should be able to see that we are different and that we have a Christian worldview. Fighting the urge to belong to the wrong group and to fit in is not always easy, but it always leads to a blessed life. God sees the decisions we make and knows that our choices lead to uncomfortable situations. Obeying God leads to having more fruit of the spirit and who doesn’t want more love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control? (Galatians 5:22)

So put off all expectations that in this life you and the world will ever be friends. But do grab on to the expectation of eternal life in heaven because all believers in Christ will see this most important expectation fulfilled!
