“But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years is like a day.” 2 Peter 3:8 (NIV)
It can take a while for a dream God has given us, to unfold. The time period between the dream and the culmination of that same dream can take months, years or even decades. Why does it take so long? It takes a long time for our dreams to come true because in our present state we will not be good stewards of what God gives us. We must be ready to receive the good things God has planned for us with a grateful and humble heart, giving Him the glory. It is a beautiful thing when a believer comes to understand this truth.
There may be characteristics in us that need to die (John 12:24) before we can be trusted with more. For example, if you struggle with pride, the Holy Spirit will work within you to get rid of the pride that keeps you taking all the credit or considering yourself better than others. If you struggle with extreme anxiety, God will desire to give you His peace so that you can enjoy the gifts He gives and be in a position to use His gifts to bless others.
Joseph understood all about waiting for his dreams to be fulfilled. He was continually being pruned for his future position as second in command of Egypt. Joseph’s pruning took the form of being sold as a slave, being wrongfully accused, being thrown in a dungeon, and being forgotten. Through all his hard times, Joseph was forgiving, hard-working and upright. He kept his eyes fixed on the author of his story, and did not act as a victim of his circumstances. Eventually his dreams came to pass.
What a great role model! Doing the “next right thing” can be difficult, but it gets us closer to our dream every time.
