How to get in Step with God’s Rhythm

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33

Have you ever heard the term co-regulation? Co-regulation is a process by which connection and bonding occur from one person’s nervous system to another person’s nervous system. A child in the mother’s womb is being regulated – balanced – by the mother’s rhythm. When the child is born, the process still continues. When the infant is away from its mother, it will often go into dysregulation as a result of being in a new environment and having new encounters. When the baby is brought back to its mother, the child will regulate once again and become calm and “centered”. This process continues as the child grows, but eventually she will learn to regulate herself.

The same thing happens between us and our Father in Heaven. When we spend time with the Father, we regulate and fall into His rhythm. When we are out in the world, we become dysregulated from our daily experiences. This is why it is so important to spend time with Jesus every day reading the Word, listening to Christian music, and praying. There are many ways to spend time with Jesus, but we cannot neglect the reading of His Word because it reveals the love and truth we need to understand Him and be in alignment with His Spirit.

Today, if you are feeling confused, worried, angry, sad, or lonely, may I suggest diving into a book of the Bible? God’s presence is restorative and His work is redemptive. Abide in Him.

With love,
