“But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ”! 1 Corinthians 15:57
Would you like to have more victory in your life? If you do, you are going to have to prioritize the area in which victory is sought. By that I mean, it takes hard work to overcome bad habits, addictions, and generational tendencies. We are co-workers with Christ (1 Corinthians 3:9) and He will be working on your behalf once He sees your effort toward the issue.
In my own life, I have come to understand the process to go like this:
- I have a new awareness of an issue that is negatively affecting my relationship with Jesus.
- I begin working on it, talking with others, confessing it, finding resources to help me, praying about it, reading Scriptures related to it, etc.
- I sense God’s support, guidance from the Holy Spirt, I begin periods of waiting on God for more answers, the battle gets really real, it hurts to change, I have moments of victory, I take one foot forward and three back, I get discouraged, years go by that I am not sure I am overcoming, I push forward, I get stronger, I help others going through difficulties, I feel powerful, I feel a freshness for life and I sense a victory
- The enemy is under my foot.
God is with us through the whole process please do not doubt that, but there is an expectation that if I want to get out of the hole I am in, I have to get busy getting better. I have waited on God to fix situations in my life to no avail. I sat for years before I did anything about some of the issues in my life and life got more and more unbearable and unmanageable. It’s hard to know which step to take first in the beginning, but go with your gut and reach out in some small way.
Prayer: God, in your love, please show me where I need to change.
